After yesterdays wasted day when I went to the dip with a breeze promised, rigged 8.5 on my big xantos and waited most of the day and all we got was a couple of 15 mph gusts lasting about a minute !!! :( Even David Coles couldn't get going on 12 m !!! Had a nice evening with Peter and Gill Cutts in their new campervan at Landguard carpark watching the sunset and then a good storm ! So with no wind at all forecast for today we decided to take our canoe out for the first time in a year :) We headed to The Dip and were inflated and ready to go by midday, the sea was a bit bumpy in the open sea and it was overcast but warm. We headed out to the end of the shingle bar in the mouth of the River Deben to check out a new red bouy. We canoed in and out of the islands watching the turns, spooted the Harbour Master doing river trips and up to see the ferry cross and loads of people crabbing on the jetty. We turned back just as the tide started to come in but made it to the poind and the start of Bawdsey beach. We had to walk a 100m and we were now against to flow ! We stgopped for snacks and collected a little coal, some idiots had camped on the beach and left their tent along with loads of broken beer bottles - brian dead or what !!! :( With the turning of the tide the wind picked up and the thunder started !!! We didn't think we were going to make it back to The Dip and our plan was to canoe back across the river and for Mag to walk back while I packed up the canoe but we made such good progress against the tide in the river we continued all the way back - even spotting a seal :) We were a few metres from the the beach when the rain arrived but it was only a short burst so did'nt get too wet ! It was nice to get out in the canoe again but it is hard work paddling !!!
